My name is Alexander Martiny. I'm a Hispanic student born and raised in Guatemala, with a Salvadoran mother and an American father. Growing up in a multicultural home, I've learned to see the world from different perspectives, blending Guatemalan warmth, Salvadoran resilience, and American innovation. I've also experienced the challenge of not fully fitting into any one identity, but that has only pushed me to carve out a unique space for myself through the things I love most: technology, community, and learning.

Since I was 13, I’ve been committed to growing my technical knowledge by taking online IT courses. I’ve earned certifications in Google IT Automation with Python, Google Data Analytics, IBM – Cybersecurity Analyst, Meta – Front-End Development, and Meta – Databases for Back-End Development. These courses have given me a strong foundation in programming, data analysis, web development, databases, and online safety, skills I’ve applied directly in real-world projects

I'm deeply passionate about STEM, and that passion led me to take on a leadership role in launching two fully equipped STEM labs at Cadaniño, a nonprofit that provides after-school programs to vulnerable children in Guatemala. What began as a personal dream turned into a self-led initiative that raised $13,000 through a fundraising campaign I started. I researched, budgeted, purchased equipment like 3D printers, robotics kits, and laser engravers, and then taught myself how to use them. I also trained the teachers, built classroom shelving, and now continue to support the program through ongoing maintenance and mentorship. As of today, the labs have impacted over 260 students, who have completed nearly 1,500 STEM projects.

Beyond that, I support my school's tech programs by helping manage 3D printers, serving as a class representative in physics, and participating in the school's missions and service club. I've won endurance races and biathlons, not because I'm the most athletic, but because I'm committed to pushing myself with discipline and consistency.

My older sister's journey to become the first in our family to graduate college, joining the National Guard and studying Industrial and Systems engineering, inspired me to dream big and work hard. From her, I learned that success is often achieved through sacrifice and that the most meaningful accomplishments come from lifting others up along the way.

What defines me isn't just what I've built but who I've built it for. To me, STEM isn't just about machines or code; it's about problem-solving, encountering problems, discovering solutions, testing the solutions, evaluating the result, and improving it. It's about empowering people with tools to create a better future. Whether building a 3D Printed project, training a teacher, or mentoring younger students, I'm committed to using my knowledge to make a difference. I'm excited to continue this journey, learning, leading, and expanding access to STEM wherever I go.
